Lots of bikers have joined up. There is a very active members forum as well as a motorcycle events listing. Lots of members are arranging get togethers which you can get information about both from the events listing online and the monthly members newsletter.

At the time of writing (Dec 2009) it has over 16000 profiles and new members joining every week.

Almost forty years on and they are still going strong.

They represent members views both in government working parties and in the press and produce an excellent bi-monthly members magazine.  Members also enjoy discounts at lots of different motorcycle establishments, locally and nationally, as well as on insurance and breakdown cover.

There is a nationwide network of local meetings for those motorcyclists who want to get more involved.  There are several MAG rallies, parties and one day shows throughout that all raise money so that MAG can keep functioning and fight for our right to keep riding how, when and on what we choose.  Members also get beer tokens at the main rallies.

As someone who has been on the receiving end we know how unpleasant it is having your motorcycle stolen but what can you really do to stop a determined thief?

Well, if he’s determined probably not a lot unfortunately.

So what we are really looking at is a deterrent to an opportunist thief.

You’ll probably find that your insurance company offers a discount if you use a reputable make of chain/ground anchor/alarm.

It is a top motorcycle friendly place to stay, that you could stay at en route to Scotland or further afield, although you may not want to leave.

Here you will find a fantastic collection of motorcycles including ex Sammy Miller racing motorcycles. There are over 400 rare and classic motorcycles on display and is referred to as a living museum because a lot of the exhibits are run regularly and displayed at events all around the world. You can also glimpse motorcycles being restored in the units around the courtyard and enjoy a cup of tea or whatever takes your fancy in the tearoom. They also have an events programme on their website.

They have a great collection of old British motorcycles as well as an extensive collection of old advertising memorabilia.

The museum have regular events including their annual all-day breakfast.

You can also adopt a bike and you can give friendship of the museum gifts to your motorcycling friends an relatives which not only gives free entry to the museum several times a year but also discounts on breakdown cover and ferry travel.

Classic Bike and Classic Bike Guide – two more monthly classic bike magazines. They have some good features, show reports and special writers. Plus free to advertise motorcycles for sale section in both magazines.

Old Bike Mart – is a monthly newspaper available by subscription only, it’s as cheap as chips but it contains lots of great information for classic and old bike buffs including an extensive what’s on section and a massive classifieds section which is very cheap to advertise in.
